Hey there, fellow bookworms!

Have you ever wanted to feel like Sherlock Holmes but with better WiFi and a knack for overanalyzing text messages? Well, buckle up because Holly Jackson’s A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder trilogy is about to take you on a wild, slightly illegal, and extremely addictive ride through small-town secrets, teenage investigations, and, let’s be honest, a lot of questionable decision-making.

This isn’t your average YA mystery series. No, no. This is a Gen Z detective story where the heroine, Pip Fitz-Amobi (Nancy Drew 2.0), does what any rational girl would do when she suspects a murder cover-upstart a podcast (because, obviously, that’s the modern way of catching killers).

Synopsis

Pip is your typical Type-A, straight-A student who decides to re-investigate a five-year-old murder case for her school project. You know, just casual extracurricular activities. The case? The alleged murder of Andie Bell by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, a Pakistani boy (yes, representation! But also... he’s accused of murder, so not ideal).

But Pip isn’t buying the official story. She starts poking around, teaming up with Ravi Singh, Sal’s younger brother (a literal cinnamon roll). And let’s just say, the more she digs, the more trouble, lies, and creepy anonymous threats start popping up.

My Thoughts: Read This Series or Regret It Forever

Holly Jackson crafted a masterpiece with this trilogy. It’s thrilling, smart, full of twists that will leave you questioning your own existence, and features a heroine who is flawed but unforgettable. Plus, Ravi Singh supremacy.

📢 If you love:
✔️ True crime vibes
✔️ Fast-paced mysteries with actual smart protagonists
✔️ Ethical dilemmas that make you question your morals
✔️ A side of sarcasm and witty banter

Then DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND READ THIS SERIES.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • The trilogy is written in verse, which is a bit different from your typical novel. However, I found it to be a very engaging way to read.
  • The plot is quite complex, so you'll need to pay attention to keep up.
  • There are some mature themes, so it's probably not suitable for younger readers.

A few funny lines from the book that are far too relateable:

  • "I'm not a detective; I'm just a girl with a podcast addiction."
  • "I'm not sure if I'm more obsessed with solving this case or with Ravi Singh."
  • "I'm starting to think that everyone in this town is hiding something."
